Meeting Minutes – January 2012 #2

Genoa Historical Association
Minutes January 30, 2012
Present: David Baildon, Rene Benda, Bob Folts, Marilyn Mann, Paul Mitchell, Roberta Parseghian, Pat Sellen, Vicki Sheils, Peter Signor, and Eileen Welch

The meeting was called to order by President Roberta Parseghian at 6:35 pm.

Minutes from last month’s meeting were approved and a motion was made to accept them. Marilyn 1st, Vicki 2nd. Motion carried.

Financial report: Was accepted as presented. Pat 1st, 2nd Peter. Motion carried.

A discussion followed as to what we should do if Katherine is unable to return to work at the GHA. A motion was made, since we currently have enough volunteers to keep regular hours that we would not be filling the position. Pat 1st, Roberta 2nd. Motion carried.

We then held a lengthy discussion regarding the budget for 2012. The conversation was whether to have a “bare bones” budget, as in previous years, or to “up front” money to some existing lines to help us through emergencies, expanded programs, new equipment, and possibly develop new ideas/goals. Bob will bring a new budget proposal to our meeting in February.

We then discussed Committees for 2012. Marilyn offered to resign from the board if we chose, but no one felt that was in our best interest. We added and deleted names to some of the committees trying to match people’s interests with the project/task. Pat will distribute the updated list at our next meeting.

A lengthy list of goals was presented to the Board, and we will be considering them over the next several months: Getting past Tribunes on our website (Paul mentioned that they are already on the Fulton site and do we want to duplicate the info?); build a floor in the attic so there will be more storage; more shelving along with a refrigerator and micro wave for the closet; what to do with excess year books; increase membership; improve barn; publish a One Room School House book; identify historical landmarks in the Town; etc.

Vicki and Pat attended the H3C meeting and there is an opportunity to make some money for the GHA at the Big 6 picnic.

The Museumwise membership will be paid for from the Town Historian’s budget.

Attached is a list of upcoming events that are being planned for the GHA. Peter Signor’s presentation, Genoa, the Past through Pictures was a splendid program with more that 40 people attending. Marilyn will be meeting at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 4th, with the person that would like to present a Paranormal Investigation, anyone is welcome to attend.

Marilyn would like to order some more Rural Life Museum note cards, with return address envelopes. A motion was made to purchase the note cards and envelopes. Pat 1st, Vicky 2nd. Motion carried.

Bob will be working with Jack Grant over the next few weeks as they try to determine the reason for the tank filling with water so fast. He will keep the Board abreast of the situation.

Bob would like to purchase a new computer station since the one currently being used is inefficient. He will keep the Board up-to-date on the situation.

It was brought to the Board’s attention that Edna Mastin had a problem with the security system last week. Bob will check into the system and he will also have Monica and Greg Wesley’s name removed from the list of contacts. Another item that should be looked into is the telephone system to see if we have the most efficient plan.

Lorie Fessenden, Town Supervisor, will be attending our February meeting to discuss the Town’s position on such.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 9:00pm. Pat1st, Bob 2nd. Motion carried.

Next Meeting: February 27, 2012, 6:30pm
Respectively Submitted,
Pat Sellen
